The Texas Motor Speedway is the site of this weekend’s race. This is the 34th race of the season which means there are only two races to go after this one. It’s been a long season and I’m sure the drivers are ready for it to come to and end.
My team this week:
Chaser: Jimmie Johnson
How can I not pick Jimmie? He’s been incredible since the chase began. He’s also really good at Texas. He has a win and two 2nd place finishes in 3 of his last 4 here. For his career he has 8 top 10s in 10 career races with an average finish of 8.5.
Alternate Chaser: Matt Kenseth
Matt usually does well at Texas with a 10.2 average finish and 7 top 10s, 5 top 5s and 1 win in 12 career races. He should do well again on Sunday.
Mark Martin
Mark has decent numbers at Texas, but he’s proven this year that he can still get it done and finish in the top 10 racing against the younger drivers. With a win, 5 top 5s and 8 top 10s he knows how to get around this track.
Martin Truex Jr.
Martin has finished in the top 10 in ½ of his races at Texas. He didn’t in the spring race here so he’s due for one now. Look for him to run close to the lead pack.
Darkhorse: Jamie McMurray
Jamie really had a solid run last week finishing 7th, and I think he can have a repeat performance this week. He has finished in the top 10 in two of the last four races here, so it won’t be a total fluke if he does it again.
